The aim of this thesis project is the design of an external gear pump, deployed to feed the dry sump lubrication system of an heavy duty diesel engine.
From the definition of the design specifications of the lubrication system, provided by the customer company, the calculation procedure for the design of the pump components, such as the gears or the fluyd-dynamic bearings, has been developed. In order to validate the calculation procedure and to evaluate the dynamic behavior of the pump, the 3D CAD model of the preliminary pump prototype has been tested with numerical analysis.
